Focused on an architectural style inspired by loft living, the District interior trend is the perfect complement to a contemporary home. Jordan Cluroe and Russell Whitehead, two of the leading names in today’s interior design industry and founders of 2LG Studio take a closer look at A by Amara’s District look…
A new refined industrial look harking back to some retro ’90s realness. Are the ’90s retro yet? we hear you cry! the younger members of our team would say they were, sending us into a mild panic about how long ago the ’90s were, but also giving us a warm feeling of nostalgia for a time that was full of growth and promise. So if we are embracing our nearest retro design era now, what does ’90s realness mean to us and how can you get the District look in your home? For starters let’s help you break down the look – slimline metalwork, elegant ceramics, a monochrome base with bold accents of teal and rust.
This collection takes our British industrial heritage of fine ceramicists and metal work, updating the industrial look to something more clean and sophisticated – dare we say, executive. Think MTV’s The Real World, American Psycho and The Secret of My Success all rolled into one – really showing our age now. All power suits and sharp styling.
Monochrome was oh so hot in Paris earlier this year and this is the base of the district look. Strong lines of black and white form the structure, with a monochrome lighting collection that really shows this off. The black cylindrical lamp on a bent wire base would be right at home on a desk, dressing table or sideboard to give instant impact.
Giving the look bold life, Teal accents that are so desirable and liveable are key to achieving this vibe in your home. The colorful vertical stripes on the paintings in the dining room here and in the bed linen give a nod to pinstripe suits and add to that executive vibe.
Fine vertical stripes feel so clean and modern and are a simple way for you to pull this look together in your home with a final, oh so important detail. You know how much we love a stripe in our own interiors projects.
- This look gives great impact in either a modern white box or in a more textured industrial warehouse home with exposed brick walls.
- Warm up the hard lines with a complementary accent color like burnt orange, rust or perhaps tan leather.
- Soften the edge with layers of textural grey throws and cushions to give it a homely vibe.
- Style out your dining table with a huge bunch of Eucalyptus in an elegant glass vase. Simple and oh so chic.
Star piece: the Allen Ink Stain Vases are the epitome of monochrome elegance, with their elegant flowing form and organic splatter glaze design.
